Mesothelioma Texas Law Firm Wins Multi-Million Dollar Mesothelioma Lawsuit
On May 16th 2008, Williams Kherkher, a mesothelioma Texas litigation firm based in Houston, announced a $9.7 million verdict in a mesothelioma case. The case was tried in the Los Angeles County Superior Court before Judge William MacLaughlin of Department 89. The jury in the case awarded the sum to Chief Brewer and his wife Gail for damages caused by long term asbestos exposure.
The case of Brewer v. Crane Company came about after Mr Brewer was diagnosed with mesothelioma. He has worked as a machinist mate in the Navy between 1961 and 1965 and during his time in this work he was exposed to asbestos blankets that were used to cover the valves and gasket materials located in the ship on which he worked. Those valves were produced by the Crane Company.
The total sum awarded in the case was $9.7 million which was broken down into three component parts. The largest sum of $5 million was awarded to Chief Brewer for non economic damages. His wife, Gail Brewer, was awarded a further $4 million also for non-economic damages. Lastly there was a $700,000 award for economic damages.
Troy Chandler was the mesothelioma Texas lead attorney heading the case for Williams Kherker. This is what he had to say: “Chief Brewer was a humble machinist mate in the U.S. Navy, who served his country with honor and dignity, raised a wonderful family, and loved only one woman his entire life,” said Chandler. “He is the epitome of a great American, and now he is dying due to the negligence of defense contractors like Crane Co. It is a shame that companies that profited at the expense of men like Chief Brewer turn their backs on them. I was proud to stand with Chief Brewer. He, and the men and women like him, is why I do what I do.”
Another mesothelioma Texas lawyer who worked on the case was Michael Patronella. He served along side Mr. Chandler in representing the brewers. He said, “I have had the great honor and privilege to represent two wonderful people, in Chief and Gail Brewer. The last year has been extremely difficult for Chief as he has had to endure hospitalization after hospitalization, as a result of his asbestos-related mesothelioma. Chief’s wife Gail is the epitome of a loving caring and supportive spouse taking care of her soul mate with no complaints throughout the grueling stages of chemotherapy and its horrible side effects.”
Mrs Brewer was very grateful to her attorneys and the outcome which they secured. “We have been blessed with a wonderful team of attorneys and thank them for all their hard work and personal care they have provided for us over these last 12 months,” said Mrs. Brewer. “Moreover, we appreciate and applaud the efforts of the jury, who put their lives on hold for two long months away from their jobs and families. I think it is a huge sacrifice and very commendable for them to do that for our family.”
